Why is my baby feeding so much at night?

This is a question I get asked a lot! We all understand that a newborn baby needs regular feeds through the night but what about when your baby is older and you have had enough of night feeds?

So what can you do to help your baby stop feeding through the night?

The first thing to look at is how much milk they are getting in the day? Is your baby so distracted during the day that they have very short feeds and are then having much longer feeds at night? Is he or she eating well during the day or just snacking and then filling up on milk during the night?

One key to your baby not needing night time feeds is making sure that they have enough food and milk in the daytime. This means spacing out feeds and making sure they get enough complex carbohydrates such as porridge and wholemeal bread or pasta at mealtimes.

Of course all babies are different and you will need to work out a feeding schedule that works for you.
